What is TwistCoin?

TwistCoin is an independent proof-of-work blockchain, forked from Bitcoin Core. It uses the same SHA256d mining algorithm as Bitcoin - meaning existing Bitcoin ASIC hardware can mine it directly, no firmware changes needed - but it has its own genesis block, network, and consensus rules.

Is TwistCoin premined?

No. The mainnet genesis block's coinbase message references a specific, real Bitcoin block height and hash - proof that mining couldn't have started before that point in time.

How is TwistCoin different from Bitcoin?

Blocks arrive roughly every 2 minutes instead of Bitcoin's 10, the difficulty retargets every 144 blocks instead of 2016, and the block subsidy halves roughly every 2 years instead of Bitcoin's ~4, starting at 20 TWIST per block. Total supply converges to about 21 million TWIST - the same order of magnitude as Bitcoin, reached about twice as fast.

Can I mine TwistCoin with my Bitcoin ASIC?

Yes. TwistCoin uses unmodified SHA256d proof-of-work, so any Bitcoin-compatible ASIC can point its stratum connection at a TwistCoin pool with nothing more than a URL and address change. See the mining guide.

Is the code open source?

Yes, all of it, under the TwistCoin GitLab group: the node (twistcoin-core, forked from Bitcoin Core), the mining pool (twistpool-backend / twistpool-frontend, forked from Public Pool), and this website.
